Although they may not be convenient to use all of the time, or you may prefer having the comfort of a car for those early morning treks to work, hiring a motorbike, moped or scooter can be a fun and practical solution. If you are on holidays in a location that has narrow streets, busy traffic and very few parking spaces, a scooter or moped is a fantastic option worth considering. If you are a motorcycle enthusiast but have no bike of your own, renting one can be the perfect way to familiarize yourself with the different makes and models prior to investing in one.
There are some things to keep in mind, however, when hiring a motorbike, moped or scooter. For example:

Your licence. If you are hiring in a different country to that which your licence is from, you may be required to get an international licence, or sit a short exam to get one for the country you’re holidaying in. This is a likelihood for people outside the EU travelling in to the EU, and EU citizens travelling to outside the EU. EU citizens travelling to other EU countries will not encounter as many problems.

Travel insurance. Although this may seem obvious, if you are going to be using a moped or scooter in a foreign country, you will be unfamiliar with the area, the roads, and the bike you’ve hired. In the unlikely event of an emergency or accident, you don’t want to be caught short. Make sure your insurance covers non-car vehicular accidents, as some bargain travel insurance policies may use this loophole to get out of paying up.
